2009 Long Life Lighting LED Survey Results PDF Print E-mail

Long Life Lighting is proud to be an advocate of the LED Industry in Australia, to assist us to better understand our customers we conduct an annual survey. Long Life Lighting has run this survey for the last two years.  Now that we have two years of results it has enabled us to compare the differences between the 2008 and 2009 surveys.

This year we have decided to compile the 2009 results into a report and release it to the public. The results have given us an insight to what people think and know about the LED industry and we hope it also helps you understand our findings.

Have you heard of LED lighting?

97% of the participants knew about LED Lighting, leaving only 3% not knowing but how much do the 97% really know about LED lighting?

At Long Life Lighting we are continually trying to improve our website so it can become a main resource for visitors wanting to know anything related to LED lighting. We also like to educate visitors in ways of becoming more “Green” and running a sustainable household. Be assured that whenever we come across any information we think our visitors may find useful we will publish it to our website so you can keep up to date with the rapid improvements of the LED lighting industry.

Is LED the most efficient lighting?

People tend to believe that this is the case, and they are correct! Over 85% of the participants in the survey believe that LED is the most efficient type of lighting. CFL Lighting was followed after LED with 10% and a small 4% of participants believed Incandescent lighting is the most efficient lighting.

Compared to Incandescent lighting which is being banded in Australia and other parts of the word LED lighting can reduce the energy consumed by 90%.

LED lighting will one day be the lighting choice of the future; it has too many advantages over other lighting types. You will read more about this in the next section

Will LED lighting be the lighting choice of the future?

A staggering 94% of the people we surveyed did agree that LED lighting will be the lighting choice of the future. With its long life span, low energy usage and many other advantages there is no reason why LED lighting will not take over lighting our Earth.

We are all aware of Global warming but how much do we care?

threeEvery participant is aware of global warming; 69% of participants have a fairly high to very high concern about Global warming and the affect on our planet.  20% have a moderate concern and a small 11% of people saying that Global warming is of very low to fairy low concern.

So people are aware that we have to do more to stop or slow down the process of global warming, and most people are highly concerned, the more people that do their little bit will mean  that we will all benefit from a more sustainable future.

Halogen Downlights are putting you and your family at risk!!!

Did you know that halogen lights run at a temperature of over 200º Celsius?

We found that 71% of participants know about the danger which halogen downlights can have to a home, however in saying this, it still leaves 29% which are unaware of the risk that halogen lighting can have. When it comes to safety no one can afford not to be aware. At Long Life Lighting one of our aims is to warn people of the dangers of halogen lighting.

To be safe always follow the building standards, when installing insulation it must not be within 300mm of the halogen down light. When using LED lighting the building codes must still be followed but LED down light only run at a temperature of about 60-65 º C meaning that the risk of a fire starting is significantly low.

What you had to say

A large number of our participants feel that the price for LEDs is too expensive. We know that LED, at this stage, is more expensive to purchase then other lighting types like Halogen and CFLs. However the advantage that LED has over other forms of lighting is that LED uses only little energy meaning less money spent on electricity cost. Pay back periods for LEDs is almost always within the one to two year mark, meaning that the investment will pay its self off.

Comments

  • “Price was initially an issue but a friend convinced me and now I am slowly replacing my lights to LEDs “
  • “Little more expensive, but longer lasting, so in the long run works out cheaper”
  • “I like it.  The output is good, the quality seems fine, and although more expensive to purchase, doesn't appear to be more expensive in the long run”
  • “Led lighting is very useful and with a low voltage needing,, very energy efficient for me, I power mine through a solar panel on the roof.”
  • “A little dearer, Very Very good quality and output. Instant on and off (no warm up) No heat”
  • “I think your company is great and with out companies like your one people would not no any think about the options”

Are you renting?

Even if you are renting you can still make the switch to LED. Our past experience shows that  Landlords are willing to help in part payment or even in some cases full payment to help do their little bit for the environment.
